MemoryLane
Axis Bank — Year-end wrap

Role: Lead Motion, Lead Creative Technologist

My favourite work challenge of 2025:

Using Rive inside a live banking app, at the scale of 13 million users.

Stretching What We Could Do

At Axis Design Lab, we look forward to our year-end in-app wrap every year: Memory Lane. It’s where we pause and reflect a user’s year back to them through personalised financial highlights.

Last year set a high bar — with strong storytelling, beautiful illustration, and carefully crafted animation.

As a product designer focused on motion and interaction on the Axis Bank app team, I knew early on this year that I wanted to push it further: treating motion not as a finishing layer, but as something that actively shapes how the experience works.

One of the hardest parts was working with user-specific, dynamic data. Every animation had to respond to individual user data in real time, while staying lightweight, readable and dependable.

So we built this year’s MemoryLane using Rive.

It was a deliberate stretch. Rive was new to the entire team, and bringing it into a live banking app meant learning fast and making careful decisions along the way. I spent time getting hands-on early, exploring how it could support interaction-led motion at scale, and then worked closely with the team to shape how we used it across the experience.
What made it work was the team’s openness to lean into the experiment and solve problems together.

And boy, did we have to!

To deepen interaction, we introduced a customised quiz within MemoryLane. The idea was simple:  Instead of passively consuming their recap, users could engage actively.

It added moments of play while guiding them toward Axis Bank products relevant to their needs

MemoryLane 2025 created with Rive ha now gone live inside the Open by Axis banking app, with real users and real constraints.

The experience has now rolled out to over 13 million users. Using Rive pushed us to think of interaction as part of the product system itself.

Let’s keep pushing; here’s to more mindful motion that matters!
